HI! HOW ARE YOU? WHERE ARE YOU? Hello, I’m fine, thank you. „NECROSIS“ IS OUT AND QUITE IMPRESSIVE. ARE YOU CONTENT WITH EVERYTHING? HOW ARE YOUR FEELINGS NOW AFTER WORK IS DONE? Thank you for liking the record. We are satisfied with the record as things are now. We just have to hope that people out there buy it. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO CHANGE YOUR NAME BACK TO CADAVER (WITHOUT THE „INC.“)? It felt more natural returning to the old logo and name on this record. Time will show if people accept the „new“ Cadaver and let us continue in our corner of the norwegian metal. ANY INTERESTING ANEKDOTES CONCERNING YOUR TIME SELLING ALIBIS? HAVE YOU HAD PROBLEMS WITH NORWEGIAN POLICE/ LAW? AND DID YOU REALLY MEET ANY „TRUE“ MURDERERS? We’ll never know if some of the applications for jobs were real or fake. We got some strange ones from China, Brazil and former USSR that looked pretty real. We had threats to shut it down from the Norwegian secret police as they didn’t like us linking this business to the government. It was a good experience. AND HOW DID YOUR COLLABORATION WITH CANDLELIGHT START? ARE YOU CONTENT WITH THEIR PROMOTIONAL WORK? They came to us at a time where we could choose between different labels and offered the best deal. They have done a lot of promo and we have been touring Europe, so it’s been great so far. THE ARTWORK OF THE COVER IS VERY INTERESTING ALTHOUGH I CAN’T STILL DECIDE WHAT IS PORTRAYED. IS THERE A SEXUAL SLIMY BACKGROUND? CAN YOU HELP ME WHICH IS THE MESSAGE? IS IT RELATED WITH THE TEXT CONCEPT AND DID YOU HAVE ANY INFLUENCE ON THE DESIGN? The design was formed in our creative mastermind Justin Bartletts head. It’s surealistic art of today and means different things depending on the eyes of the beholder. I think it is dissected Testicles… but I’m not sure. WHICH LYRICAL CONCEPT STANDS BEHIND „NECROSIS“? IT OBVIOUSLY DEALS WITH DEATH IN ANY FORM. Death and anti-authority. I wanted to bring blasphemy back to death/thrash metal. It’s not only a black metal thing to be blasphemous. COULD YOU TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THE PRODUCTION PROCESS? I THINK PRODUCTION VALUES ARE RAW BUT ALSO CLEAR IN TERMS OF RECOGNIZING THE SINGLE INSTRUMENTS. DOES THE SOUND FIT YOUR EXPECTATIONS? There may be a 1000 hours of work behind this album trying to recreate the raw sound of the band as such. We just wanted to record what we have and see how that would sound in the best possible way. We succeeded with our goal, Cadaver records should always sound a little different. IN MY REVIEW I WROTE THAT YOUR SOUND IS AT TIMES DISSONANT BUT ALSO TECHNICAL AND SOMEHOW AVANTGARDE. WOULD YOU AGREE WITH THIS DESCRIPTION? I guess you’re right. That’s more work by accident than purely intended. I just wanted to sound as close to ourself as possible. „ODIUM“ (HATE) IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE TRACKS AS IT SOUNDS AS IF MONSTER MAGNET WOULD COVER AN OLD VENOM CLASSIC… ANY COMMENTS ON THAT TRACK? It’s a track that came out by itself one day. I came up with the first riff and just wrote it on the spot. It’s an overwhelming track and the only song I’ve made all the riffs for entirely by myself on this record. REGARDING THE TRACKS ON „NECROSIS“ IT SEEMS TO ME AS IF YOU HAVE BECOME MORE THRASHY AGAIN WHILE OF COURSE STAYING OLD SCHOOL. WAS THIS INTENDED OR PURE COINCIDENCE WHEN YOU ENTERED THE STUDIO? It’s a part of the production side, but also our intention to make more different stuff than on “Discipline” and leave room for more midpace drumming. Too much blastbeats would have been boring. YOU MADE A VIDEO FOR „DECOMPOSED METAL SKIN“. WILL YOU TELL US WHAT WE CAN EXPECT TO SEE? AND WILL THIS VIDEO BE PLAYED ON TELEVISION? It’s on the weekly metal show in Norway for now. We’re making a new website now, too, so it will be streamed from there. It’s a tribute to 80’s metal videos. You’ll get what I mean when you see it! WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CURRENT DEATH METAL SCENE IN NORWAY? TOO MANY BANDS? TOO MANY COPYCATS? ANY INTERESTING NEW INFLUENCES OR UNDERGROUND BANDS WHICH HAVE TO BE DISCOVERED? Hm… Its not my job to pay attention to the scene here. I have no favourite new band as I don’t listen too much to new metal anymore, especially not death metal. YOU OBVIOUSLY LIKE HORROR MOVIES. COULD YOU TELL ME YOUR FAVOURITE TITLES? DO YOU KNOW THE SICK GERMAN CLASSIC „NEKROMANTIK“? I guess “Evil Dead” is my favorite of all times. “Nekromantik” is truly a sick film. I saw it 15 years ago with Euronymous from Mayhem. He had all kinds of sick snuff shit, too. Way too sick to mention. WHAT ARE YOUR OTHER INTERESTS BESIDES MUSIC? Not much. I tried to become a normal family man with a normal job from 9 – 17 as my hobby but I failed. I have no normal job or any hobby. I guess I should become interested in something else, too, but music takes to much of my attention. I HAVE SEEN YOUR SHOW IN OSNABRÜCK, GERMANY WITH MAYHEM. IT WAS A VERY SMALL VENUE AND NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE THERE. ESPECIALLY APOLLYON SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A BIT ANGRY/ DISAPPOINTED ABOUT THIS. WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER OF THIS EVENING? I remember a big drugdealer that gave our crew “E” and that we had to change our clothes in front of the fans. I drank a bottle of Jäger before the show as the whole place sucked so bad. I’m sorry if that led to a bad show, but the PA couldn’t handle metal music and everyone just wanted to go to Hamburg ASAP. ARE YOU OLD MATES OF MAYHEM? IS IT SOMETHING SPECIAL TO PLAY WITH THEM? HOW IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP? AND WHAT ABOUT THE KAMIKAZE GUYS OF DEFILED, THEY LOOKED LIKE METAL MONSTERS Mayhem are our oldest band friends. We had a great time touring with them, and it kept us all sane throughout the tour. Defiled was a great bunch too, and we all enjoyed the tour a lot! YOU HAVE BEEN ON TOUR WITH MORBID ANGEL, TOO. I SUPPOSE IT HAS BEEN AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE. ANY FUNNY TOUR STORIES, ANY CATATROPHES? The most fun with Morbid Angel was in Hamburg. We had a day off there and all of them (except from Trey) came down with us at Reeperbahn. We found a great fuckpub where we all had a great party night together. They are living legends and I respect them all bigtime! YOU HAVE BEEN IN THE SCENE FOR SO MANY YEARS NOW BUT NEVER BECOMING COMMERCIAL. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENTS? ARE THE OLD DAYS GONE FOREVER? OR IS IT STILL FUN PLAYING METAL NOWADAYS? I think the old days are gone forever, yes. We are the last of our kind. The scene will always change. I joined this music style when it was in the making, but now it’s a classic genre and will maybe have its underground for a while. I think extreme metal needs a new breed of bands for the kids to like new stuff again. We’re old now. I’m just 31, but for a 14 year old I could be his father. You need heroes when you’re young, but preferebly people around your age, too. ANY LAST WORDS? Keep the vibe!! Thank you!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR TIME AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR STRONG EFFORT.
